Bitstrips for Schools (Fee) Comic strip creator with teacher management tools; Bitstrips is the free version but teachers should review the content since this is not limited to educational use. Bitstrips requires an email to register. Choose the "Advance Builder" to create characters. This is a very "social" site so it is important to use Settings to limit student information.

Chogger Create comics by drawing your own images from scratch or use your existing images. Comic strips created in Chogger can from three frames to twelve or more frames.

Comic Creator (Read, Write, Think) This is a very simple tool that provides people, animals, thought and speech bubbles, props, and backdrops. No color choices, no login rquired but the only option is to capture a screen shot as you go or users can print on paper when the comic is completed.

Comic Life Excellent program with easy to use interface. Comic Life does not provide a free version and requires installation on computers. Individual and multi-user license can be purchased.

Comiqs Use a template or design your own images with this cartoon generator. Results are displayed as a slide show. Turn photos, "drawings", and text into a multipane comic strip with a real comic book like style. Users can import photos from Flickr or upload from their computer and add voice bubbles and text. Registration is required to save and print.

HowToons Cartoons showing kids of all ages "How To" build things. This site is a good resource for examples of cartoons that explain "how to" do things.

Make Beliefs Comix This tool allows students to create comic strips and provides many options for customizing the strips. There is a section for teacher resources here. Very easy to use tool, no login is required and users can print their creation.

Myths and Legends Story Creator This tool has a teacher management area. The tool includes a selection of backgrounds, characters, props, and also provides the option to upload your own pictures and record narration. User's Guide.doc (61 pages)

Pixton for Schools An education-oriented tool that allows teachers to create an account, set up classes, and create student accounts (fee).
Pixton for Fun is the free version of this tool but the content of some of the comics may not be appropriate for all students. Users need an email to register. Students can create simple or complex comic using stock characters, scenes, objects. Objects are very editable, characters can change poses and users can record audio. Teaching with Pixton

StripGeneratorCreate a comic in anonymous mode or register (email required) to save your work. No color and verry simple charaters and text options.

ToonDoo Spaces Education version ($) of ToonDoo (free); This comic strip generator allows students to create their own comics. Teachers should check ToonDoo for appropriate content since it is not limited to educational use. Some of the comics my not be appropriate for your students. ToonDoo requires an email to register.

ZooBurst A digital storytelling tool that allows students to use a variety of pictures in the ZooBurst library or images they provide to create 3D pop-up books. Users can view 3D books in augmented reality by enabling their webcams (click webcam mode) then clicking the ZB button present on each story. Example: Pythagorean Theorem

Xtranormal for Education (NO LONGER FREE) A text-to-movie tool that allows students to create short films with their own scripts using text-to speech technology.
